Using technology that was originally being developed to help astronauts return from their time in space, the AlterG treadmill provides us with the ability to incrementally reduce the amount of weight-bearing your joints experience during walking or running. Its unique system pumps air into a large bag that encapsulates your lower body to help you “float.” First, you put on a pair of specialty shorts – right over your regular clothes. After you step into the machine, we align a suspension system and connect your shorts to a zipper system on the AlterG’s suspension bag. Next, the machine calibrates to determine the amount of pressure it takes to lift you off your feet.
From there, the fun begins. We choose the optimal amount of weight-bearing for you – anywhere from 20-100% normal and away you go. There is no experience quite like it. You can move freely and can feel the difference in impact from your very first step.
